Guía del Inmigrante
Ya nos hemos referido anteriormente a esta “Guía del Migrante Mexicano” publicada por la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores de Mexico. Es un documento muy polémico porque muchos sectores conservadores en los Estados Unidos piensan que es una guía que incentiva a los inmigrantes a quebrantar las leyes de inmigración. Yo por mi parte pienso que es un intento del gobierno mexicano para disminuír el número de muertes de migrantes cruzando la frontera. Al comienzo del documento, el gobierno mexicano aclara que hay formas legales para ingresar a Estados Unidos y que esa es la forma preferida para hacerlo pero al mismo tiempo comprende que muchos ciudadanos mexicanos continuarán cruzando la frontera ilegalmente como lo han venido haciendo durante cientos de años. Si la gente va a cruzar la frontera ilegalmente de todas formas, es importante brindarles información para al menos evitar innecesarias muertes.
A pesar de que este documento se llama “Guía del Migrante Mexicano”, la información incluida es valiosa para inmigrantes de cualquier nacionalidad.
Me pareció importante volver a publicar un enlace a esta guía e incluirlo en una sección de recursos para el inmigrante.
Los siguientes son algunos de los puntos importantes incluídos en esta guía:
- Presta mucho cuidado cuando cruzas en zonas de alto riesgo como ríos, desiertos, y montañas. Especialmente si cruzas en la noche
- Cuidado con los “polleros”, “coyotes”, o “pateros”
- No utilices documentos falsos o que no te pertenezcan, ni tampoco declares falsa nacionalidad
- Si eres detenido no te resistas al arresto
