¿Puedo obtener una cuenta de cheques o de ahorros aunque no tenga residencia legal en este país?
La realidad es que muchos inmigrantes indocumentados en este país tienen cuentas bancarias, depositan sus ahorros en estas cuentas, y realizan la mayoría de las transacciones financieras al igual que el resto de la población.
Con el correr de los años, muchos bancos en los Estados Unidos se han dado cuenta de lo importante (y lucrativo) que es el mercado de inmigrantes indocumentados y por lo tanto están otorgando cuentas de cheques y ahorros a aquellos inmigrantes que no tienen número válido de seguro social.
Por ejemplo el Bank of America que tienen oficinas en casi todo el país, dice en su pagina de web que los siguientes son los requisitos para obtener una cuenta bancaria:

Sí. Para abrir una cuenta de cheques o de ahorros por teléfono necesitas varias cosas, incluyendo:
* Tu número de Seguro Social
* Domicilio actual (y domicilio anterior si has vivido en tu domicilio actual menos de 5 años)
* Información sobre el banco o institución financiera desde la cual llegará el dinero con el que se abrirá la cuenta.
* Alguna forma de identificación, incluyendo una Matrícula Consular Mexicana, una licencia de manejar válida sea local o internacional, o una identificación estudiantil o laboral.Si no tienes un número de Seguro Social, por favor visita una de las sucursales bancarias para solicitar la apertura de una cuenta.
Por supuesto, los detalles varían en los diferentes estados de la nación así como en distintas ciudades y entidades bancarias.
